Caernarfon Town slipped to back-to-back defeats in the Cymru Premier following a 4-1 loss at Aberystwyth.

The Cofis were looking to respond after Saturday's 2-1 home to Newtown, which ended a five-game unbeaten run.

But the Seasiders, who had lost their last nine top-flight games, were 3-0 up by half time - with all of the goals coming in a disastrous eleven-minute spell for Richard Davies' side.

Jonathan Owen broke the deadlock on 23 minutes when he parried home Iwan Lewis' cross into the bottom corner of the net past Hari Thomas.

The Cofis keeper was beaten again when Louis Bradford nodded in from a Niall Flint setpiece, before Flint himself struck at close range from Zac Hartley's low ball on 34 minutes.

Caernarfon had the chance to respond after the break when a foul on Adam Davies saw Lewis being sent off for the Seasiders, but the resulting penalty was blasted over the crossbar.

Aberystwyth added a fourth on 82 minutes when Paulo Mendes was intercepted in midfield by Flint, who volleyed home from distance past Thomas, who has conceded six goals in just two games.

Caernarfon finally replied when Matty Jones' cross was headed in by Zack Clarke in stoppage time, but the damage had long been done as Aber clinched their first league win since March, which lifts them off the bottom of the table.

The Cofis remain fifth and will be looking to avoid another upset when they travel to Holyhead Hotspur in a highly anticipated Welsh Cup clash on Friday night.

There'll be full match commentary of the second round tie in a MônFM Sport Special on Friday night (7.30pm ko).
