A neighbourhood police officer is working her final shift before she retires from North Wales Police next month,

PCSO Iona Blackman has served the communities of Anglesey, particularly in the Benllech and Amlwch areas, for 18 years as part of the local Neighbourhood Policing Team.

During that time, she has been recognised by senior leaders and the Chief Constable for her contribution to policing, including being the recipient of the Force Priorities award last November.

Throughout her career she has led on multiple community projects, including safeguarding initiatives for vulnerable groups, diversionary projects for young people and crime prevention activities, always placing victims of crime and the needs of the local community at the forefront of her work.

Her contribution to the local community was recognised recently by both the Benllech and Amlwch community where various community members and groups came together to thank Iona for her service and wish her well in her retirement.

Ynys Mon Support Sergeant Chris Burrow said: “Today we say a fond farewell to PCSO Iona Beckmann who is retiring after providing an excellent service to the communities on Ynys Mon and North Wales Police."

“Iona has been a dedicated member of the Ynys Mon Neighbourhood Policing Team for the last 18 years and her retirement will not only be a loss to the communities she served but, to North Wales Police because she is such a valued colleague and friend to many."

“Iona’s enthusiasm towards her communities, colleagues and work is second to none and whilst we’re all very sad to see her leave, we’re delighted she’ll be able to spend more time with her family and travelling."

“Thank you, Iona, enjoy your retirement and you’re always welcome for a cuppa and cake.”

Superintendent Llinos Davies added: “It has been such a pleasure to work with Iona over the years, Iona is truly one of a kind, she has a heart of gold and is hugely respected by the local community and her colleagues."

“Her caring disposition, passion and commitment to preventing crime and anti-social behaviour, protecting the community and developing community focused skills within new PCSOs has been exemplary."

“It’s difficult to go very far in the Benllech and Amlwch area without someone knowing Iona and singing her praises, she has been part of the local community for such a long time. She will be sorely missed by all her friends in North Wales Police, and we wish her all the best in her retirement”.
