Police in south Gwynedd are stepping up night time patrols in a crackdown on rural crime.

Operation Mantel was launched following recent reports of burglaries targeting properties in rural parts of the area.

Already, patrols have been carried out in several towns and villages, including Llanwrin, Esgairgeiliog Ceinws, Dinas Mawddwy, Corris and Dolgellau.

North Wales Police say the extra patrols will provide a visible presence to reassure communities and intercept rural crime.

PC Gina Cinderby said: "As the evenings become darker once again, we are reminding rural communities to be vigilant and report suspicious activity."

“Ensure all valuables are locked away and keep keys in a separate secure location. installing CCTV and motion sensor lights can also deter thieves from targeting a property.”
