Anglesey's leisure centres are set to get a boost under a new five-year strategy for the island.
The county council's executive has adopted the plan to improve health and wellbeing through its MônActif services.
It will see the Amlwch, David Hughes, Holyhead and Plas Arthur leisure centres expand their activities and classes, along with more outreach 'pop up' opportunities in local communities.
Council leader Gary Pritchard said: "The health and wellbeing of our residents is vital to achieving a better quality of life and promoting independence on Anglesey."
"Our MônActif team provides leisure opportunities for young and old alike; and is an integral part of the council's work in the community."
"Working alongside our key partners, this new strategy will help us achieve our vision to create an Anglesey that is healthy and prosperous where people can thrive."
Under the strategy, which runs until the end of the decade, MônActif will also prioritise tackling childhood obesity with specific targeted activities as well as meeting the needs of an ageing population.
The council says all of its departments will be working together in order to provide the best possible leisure service for Anglesey residents.
Councillor Neville Evans, who holds the leisure portfolio, said: "We recognise the importance of continuing to invest in our leisure centres and providing our customers and residents with quality services which will help them stay fit and healthy and to age-well."
"Our leisure centres welcomed over half a million users in 2023/24, with thousands more participants enjoying our pop-up community activities - so we understand the importance of these services to our communities."
"We have an exciting plan in place and our MônActif team will now look to deliver this prevention focused strategy over the coming years."
The five main priorities of the 2024-29 leisure strategy are:
- Participation, Health and Wellbeing
- Developing the Workforce
- Managing our leisure facilities
- Being Financially Sustainable
- Collaboration
MônActif has already worked alongside partners and organisations to hold leisure activities across the island - which have proved extremely popular with children and young people.
But council chiefs are also keen to stress how the four leisure centres are key to improving health and wellbeing among reisdents.
Christian Branch, head of economic development, said: "Since 2017, we've invested £3.5million to modernise our leisure facilities."
"We understand the importance of these facilities and our leisure services to people's everyday lives. Continued investment, as outlined in the strategy, will help provide the high-quality facilities and activities that are needed."
"The strategy also identifies the wider benefits of the leisure service in terms of health and the economy, proving to be much more than a traditional leisure plan."
